Synonyms and stopwords
Making different words find the same products, and ignoring words that carry no meaning.

Synonyms are edited on the Search screen, in the Synonyms tab.
Two-way synonyms
Every term in the group finds the others. Use them for words that mean the same thing.

| sneakers, trainers | A search for either finds both. |
| grey, gray | Spelling variants match. |
| tee, t-shirt | Short forms match. |
One-way synonyms
The main term also finds the others, but not the reverse. Use them when one word is broader than the rest.

Stopwords
Stopwords are ignored in searches, for words like the or for in your language. They are set in the Settings tab of the Search screen.
When changes apply
Synonyms and stopwords reach the storefront when the index is next rebuilt. While your store is on Shopify’s own data (the native engine), they do not apply yet, and the screen says so.
